Black Friday Shopping in Minneapolis and St. Paul


Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is usually the busiest shopping day of the year. Here's when local malls and retailers will be opening for Black Friday shopping.

Many local independent businesses are closed for the Thanksgiving weekend, so their staff can enjoy the holiday too, but just as many will be open on Black Friday. Don't forget about our unique local stores for one-of-a-kind holiday gifts!

Mall of America

The Mall of America will open at midnight on Black Friday. Many (but not all) retailers in the Mall will be opening at midnight - check MOA's website for a list of shops opening at midnight. There will also be contests and events all day.

Covered, Designer Clothes in Uptown Minneapolis

Covered in Uptown Minneapolis sells designer jeans and high fashion wares to local hipsters. Last year, their Black Friday event was big, but this year they are promising even more sales, 20-30% discounts, givaways, champagne, cupcakes, coffee, handsome DJs and free gifts with purchases. Covered will be open 10 am - 9 pm on Black Friday.

Target, Walmart and Toys-R-Us

Target joins the ever growing list of retailers who don't even wait until Black Friday to open. Target and Walmart stores will both open at 8 pm on Thanksgiving evening, and Toys-R-Us will open at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving. All plan to stay open throughout the night and all of Black Friday.

Minneapolis Stores Opening at Midnight

Which stores in Minneapolis and St. Paul will open at midnight on Black Friday?

Kohls, Macy's, Gap, Banana Republic, Best Buy, American Eagle, Herbegers, Aeropostal, Express, Victoria's Secret, The Body Shop, New York and Company, Buckle, Arden B have all anounced that some or all of their stores will open at midnight on Black Friday.

Check with the location you plan to visit to confirm.

Alberville Premium Outlets

Alberville Premium Outlets, a mall with about 100 outlet stores, is about 30 miles northeast of Minneapolis. A few stores are opening before Midnight, and the majority of the other stores in the mall will open at midnight on Friday November 23, and will stay open until 10 p.m., with extended hours for the rest of Thanksgiving weekend.

Other Malls in the Twin Cities

Most local malls are opening early on Black Friday.

The Rosedale Center has many stores opening at midnight.
The Southdale Center has stores opening at midnight too.
Maplewood Mall is open from midnight - 10 p.m.
Woodbury Lakes some stores will open at midnight or 4 am, the rest of the mall opens 7 a.m. - 9 p.m.
The Northtown Mall in Blaine bucks the trend - it is open from 7 a.m - 9 p.m.
The Burnsville Center opens at at midnight, with the majority of the mall's stores opening at midnight.
The Galleria in Edina is open 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Gaviidae Common in downtown Minneapolis is open but with their regular Friday opening hours, check individual stores for hours.

Most chainstore retailers are open - what are their hours, and what's on sale? Many retailers don't officially release their adverts containing Black Friday deals until Thanksgiving day.

The Pioneer Press and Star Tribune newspapers will both carry Black Friday adverts, as will retailer's websites.
