We don't have spectacular hills, and you won't find any double black diamonds near the Twin Cities, but there are a couple of downhill ski and snowboard areas within an hour of Minneapolis that are popular with skiers and snowboarders. Afton Alps is the largest local hill and the most popular, while Theodore Wirth has is a small hill right in Minneapolis.
If you are looking for a more serious mountain, there is one ski resort in Minnesota, Lutsen Mountains, four hours north of Minneapolis.
