Sick of Snow? Indoor Things to do in the Winter in Minneapolis and St. Paul

By , About.com Guide

Ooh, isn't the snow beautiful? No? Fed up of it already? Staying inside until summer? OK. We understand.

Here's some ideas of activities and events to keep you busy until spring. Nothing on this list involves snow, ice, the need to endure the cold, and it will not be necessary to dress like a marshmallow.

  • Decide who make the best Juicy Lucy (or Jucy Lucy) - here's a list of the contenders.
  • See a roller derby bout. Minnesota RollerGirls game in St. Paul, or a North Star Roller Girls game in Minneapolis.
  • Tour a brewery and sample some beers. Surly tours are ferociously hard to get a space on but you might be lucky, and also check out Summit and Flat Earth breweries in St. Paul.
  • Or brew some beer of your own. Many basements in Minnesota are home to a home brewing operation - the Northern Brewer store on Grand Avenue in St. Paul has everything you need to get started.
  • Learn to rock climb at Vertical Endeavors climbing gym. If you've never climbed, you can rent the gear you need, take a beginner's class, and then get cranking on rock star skills.
  • Check out one of the screenings of the British Advertising Awards at the Walker Art Center. Every year in December and early January, the Walker screens a feature film's worth of the best British adverts. In contrast to the hard sell style common here, the adverts on the other side of the pond are more like extremely short movies - irreverent, witty, dramatic, and often totally unrelated to the product being sold. It's like the Superbowl commercials, but better - and in a different accent.
