Clara James
Much of the Midtown Greenway is below street level, following a trench that used to hold railroad lines. The trench, and the bridges that carry Minneapolis' streets over it, are almost 100 years old, and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad Grade Separation.

At several points along the Midtown Greenway, interpretative signs document the history of the railroad and surrounding areas, and the development of the modern Midtown Greenway.
