Vertical Endeavors Indoor Climbing Gym in St. Paul

By , About.com Guide

Vertical Endeavors in the east side of St. Paul is a vast indoor climbing gym, a climber's haven from the winter weather and a great practice space for rock climbing and bouldering.

The Vertical Endeavors gym has over 18,000 sq. ft. of climbing walls equipped with 60 ropes for beginners up to experts.

Novices can take basic lessons and try out some easy routes, and masters can tackle caves and overhangs, and practice leading sport routes.

A day pass gives you a whole day's admission to Vertical Endeavors, so climbers can leave for a break and then come back and climb some more. Climbing gear - harnesses, shoes, helmets, belay devices - is available for hire.

Bring a friend to climb with on top rope climbs and lead climbs. You'll need to pass a belay test before you'll be allowed to belay anyone in the gym.

Solo climbers can use the auto-belays, a rope attached to the roof to which the climber can clip their harness, and if they fall, or when the reach the top, the auto-belay lowers the climber gently to the ground. There are several throughout the gym on routes of varying difficulties.
