Wild Mountain will give you a free lift ticket on your birthday. Tuesdays are when lift tickets are half-price, and Wild Mountain has various other discounts for military and students.
Trollhaugen in Dresser, WI, about a hour away, is known for $15 Friday night lift tickets. The $15 lift tickets are only sold after 10 p.m. on Friday, when Trollhaugen is open until 3 a.m. Look in local papers for coupons to get the $15 lift ticket earlier on Friday evening if you are not a late night person.
Buck Hill discounts lift tickets in March with the March Madness sale. Tickets are $15 during the week and $25 at weekends.

Spirit Mountain in Duluth has plenty of special offers to tempt skiers and snowboarders up from the Twin Cities. Spirit Mountain will give you a free lift ticket valid almost any day but Saturday if you stay at one of several local hotels.
And for beginners, one day a month, Spirit Mountain gives new skiers and snowboarders free rental, free lessons, and free beginner area access.
Lutsen Mountains skiing here is hard for those on a budget. Buying lift tickets and hotel rooms together saves money, buy only if you stay at least two nights.
Late in the season, Lutsen offers buy-one-get-one free lifts tickets, and the last day of the season is usually free. Being much further north, their season usually goes well into April.
Afton Alps is the most popular local ski area, and so has the fewest deals. At the end of the season, usually the last weekend Afton Alps food shelf days have $5 lift tickets when you donate three non-perishable food items.

- Keep an eye out for coupons in local newspapers like Vita.mn and City Pages.
- Buy a season pass early. Prices are cheapest when you buy a season pass for next season during the current season, and some ski areas will let you ski for the rest of the current season for free.
- If you are new, even if your friend is teaching you how to ski or shred, look for deals on lift tickets when you buy lessons. For example, Welch Village's $99 beginner package gets you three lift tickets, three rentals and two lessons. Afton Alps and Hyland have similar deals.
