Buck Hill is a small ski and snowboard hill about 20 minutes south of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Buck Hill is in Burnsville, Minnesota.

Skiing and Snowboarding at Buck Hill

Buck Hill is one of the closest ski places to Minneapolis and St. Paul, and overlooks Interstate 35, making it very convenient for city dwellers.

Buck Hill is most famous for the ski racers it trains, and has sent several skier to World Cup competitons, and even to the Olympics. The most famous Buck Hill alumni are six-time World Cup champion and broadcaster Kristina Koznick, and Lindsey Vonn, multiple Olympic medal winner and four-time World Cup champion.

Buck Hill's ski racing team is very active with junior and adult lessons, leagues and races.

Non-racing skiers and snowboarders enjoy Buck Hill too. Regular and racing skis can be rented, and skiing and snowboarding lessons are available.

Buck Hill has 15 trails, mostly greens and blues. There are three chair lifts, and in addition, there are five tow ropes.

Buck Hill has 45 acres open for skiing. The vertical drop at Buck Hill is 310 feet. The longest run at Buck Hill is 1056 feet.

Buck Hill has three terrain parks, varies the jumps, moguls and terrain park features every year, usually adding some new feature every season.

There's a snow tubing area with a separate tow rope on the north side of Buck Hill.

Buck Hill uses snow making equipment. Buck Hill usually opens around Thanksgiving, and usually stays open through March, weather depending.

The food available at Buck Hill's chalet is the usual cafeteria style. If you are looking for something other than hot dogs and pizza, the surrounding suburbs have much more choice for food, and you are very close to the vast choice of restaurants in Minneapolis and St. Paul.

If you know where to look, you can avoid paying the published rate for a lift ticket to Buck Hill. In 2012, a regular all day adult lift ticket for a weekend or holiday day, costs $39.
