October 2, 3: Fall Color Chairlift Rides Hyland Hills Ski Area offers evening chairlift rides, stargazing, barbeque dinner and marshmallow roasting.
October 3: Wildlife Science Center's Harvest Howl Meet wolves, raptors and other wild animals, plus Native American demonstrations, children's games, pumpkins and more family entertainment.
October 3: On the Road Again is South St. Paul's annual fall festival. A car show, crafts, street performances, and the 26th World Championship Booya Cook-Off. Booya is a stew cooked in vast batches, and also the name of the event and festivities surrounding the cooking, eating of the food. South St. Paul's Booya is the most popular in the Twin Cities. There's several other Booya events around the Twin Cities at this time of year - here's a list of where else to get Booya.
October 3, 4, and October 10, 11: Afton Apple Orchard's Apple Festival The annual apple festival has hayrides, corn maze, music, a petting zoo, and of course, apples.
October 4: Twin Cities Marathon 15,000 runners for all around the world race the 26.2 mile course between the Metrodome and the State Capitol today. 250,000 spectators are estimated to turn out to cheer them on.
October 4: Minnesota Timberwolves The first of the pre-season games is today, with the Wolves playing Milwaukee. The regular season starts on November 1.
October 10: Saint Paul Oktoberfest An indoor, climate-controlled, family orientated festival of food, beer and dachshund races. (Compare to Minneapolis' Oktoberfest, held last month, outdoors, and often in the rain.)
October 10: Twin Cities Book Festival Readings, discussions, children's activities, and a large used and rare book sale at this annual event.
October 11, 12: Love the PieApple pie baking, free samples, live music and apple picking at Minnetonka Orchards.
October 9, 10, 11: St. Paul Fall Art Crawl A free tour of artists' studios and galleries in and around downtown St. Paul.
