January 23 - February 2: Winter Carnival is the nations' oldest winter festival and it begins this week. Ice sculpture, ice skating, snow carving Minnesotan foods, King Boreas, Vulcanus Rex and his Krew, and the wonderful Winter Carnival parade, fill downtown St. Paul, and there's several other events around the Twin Cities metro area.
January 25: Winter Carnival's King Boreas Grande Day Parade The annual parade is held on the first Saturday of the Winter Carnival. The parade route is through downtown St. Paul, finishing in Rice Park, where Kind Boreas and Vulcanus Rex symbolically face off in front of the crowds. Also in Rice Park: ice carvings, a display of past Ice Palaces inside the Landmark Center, and the St. Paul Hotel has 75c cups of hot chocolate to keep you warm.
January 24 - January 26: TwinsFest 2013 TwinsFest, a celebration of all things Twins. Over 50 current and former Minnesota Twins players are scheduled to attend the event at the Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis.
January 25: Polar Bear Plunge Hundreds of people will jump into White Bear Lake to raise money for Minnesota Special Olympics. Pledge to raise money, and you can jump in too. After the January 28 event in White Bear Lake, there are a couple more Polar Bear Plunges around the Twin Cities in February and March.
January 25: Crashed Ice After hosting the final of the Red Bull Crashed Ice tournament in St. Paul in 2012, the downhill ice skating madness returns in 2013. This time, St. Paul is hosting a qualifier, but Red Bull promises that this year, the course will be even longer and more challenging.
January 18-26 Bloomington Winter Fete Lots of winter fun in Bloomington's parks, including a broomball tournament, sleigh rides, and family activities like snow painting and sledding.
January 25: The Art Sled Rally this annual event sees wild and crazy sledding contraptions hurtling down the sledding hill at Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis. Very entertaining - and free.
January 25 Fridley WinterFest The City of Fridley has a day of inside and outside winter fun: dog sled rides, hay rides, ice games, kids dance party, and medallion hunt. At Commons Park, and Fridley Community Center. Free.
January 25: 13th Annual Snow Day at Wargo Nature Center in Anoka, a day of outside winter fun: snow shoeing, ice fishing, kick-sledding, cross-country skiing, winter crafts, and live animals to visit with. Free.
