January 23 - January 25: The U.S. Pond Hockey Championships The 2009 outdoor hockey tournament returns to Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis. Hundreds of teams formed from NHL legends, high school greats, and neighborhood stars compete for the Golden Shovel.
January 23 - January 25: TwinsFest 2009 It's a great weekend for sports fans. Once you've had enough of the cold watching pond hockey, head to TwinsFest, a celebration of all things Twins. Over 50 current and former Minnesota Twins players are scheduled to attend the event at the Metrodome.
January 25: Rock the Cradle Minnesota Public Radio presents a children's music event with the opportunity to meet The Current's DJs, storytimes, yoga, crafts, and of course, live music and a disco for tots to dance until naptime.
January 26: Chinese New Year Celebrate the Chinese New Year on the campus of Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington. There will be Chinese entertainment, music, clothing, food, and games at this free event.
January 31 - February 1: The City of Lakes Loppet is a famous cross-country ski race in Minneapolis. The main race attracts competitors from across the world, and there are several other races for adults and children across different distances. entry to the races is open to all, and for those not racing, it's a great spectator sport.
January 31: Polar Bear Plunge Hundreds of people will jump into White Bear Lake to raise money for Minnesota Special Olympics. Pledge to raise money, and you can jump in too.
