May 3 : In The Heart of The Beast MayDay Parade join 50,000 other people celebrating in Powderhorn Park with a pageant, giant puppets, performances, dancers and more, all cumulating in the spectacular Tree of Life Ceremony.
May 8 and May 9 : 61st Annual Governor's Fishing Opener This is the first year that this event has been held in the metro area. The celebrations marking the start of the 2009 fishing season will be at White Bear Lake.

May 9 and May 10 : Hands-on Archaeology opens Sibley House Historic Site's visitor season. This event allows children to work in simulated archeological digs, searching for actual artifacts from the site, one of Minnesota's earliest European settlements.
May 9 and May 10 : Shepherds Harvest Festival Baa! This is Minnesota's largest sheep and wool festival. Come and see sheep, goats, llamas and alpacas, see wool-making demonstrations and try Midwestern cheeses. A free family event at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Lake Elmo.
