August 10 - August 16: Dakota County Fair a true, old-fashioned fair held at the Farmington Fairgrounds. Livestock, bill riding, tractor parades, and live entertainment. The Fair's website is calling for parents to volunteer their children for Mutton Bustin' which is basically kids attempting to ride sheep in a rodeo. Or if that's not county fair enough for you, there's a greased pig contest too.
August 12 - August 16: Vadnais Heights Heritage Days just about the whole of the city turns out for Heritage days in this St. Paul suburb. Sports tournaments, car show, parade, petting zoo, and fireworks.
August 15: Afrifest African, American, and International vendors, musicians, entertainers, and cultural performers rock Minneapolis in mid-August.
August 15: Sidewalk Arts and Crafts Festival Hundreds of artists and crafters sell their wares throughout downtown Buffalo.

August 15: Minnesota Garlic Festival Minnesota's most fragrant festival is to promote gourmet garlic farming in Minnesota. Local chefs, artisans, entertainers and musicians will be cooking, crafting and delighting the crowds at this family event.
August 15 - August 16: Twin Cities Polish Festival After a ten year hiatus, the Polish Festival returns to Northeast Minneapolis. Polish food, music, dance, cultural and educational displays.
August 16: Como Park Japanese Lantern Lighting Festival is an evening celebration of Japanese culture, music, food and entertainment.
