Marriage licenses are issued by counties in Minnesota. A marriage license issued by Hennepin County or Ramsey County in the Twin Cities can be used for a marriage anywhere in the state of Minnesota. It is not valid for a marriage out of state.
To apply for a marriage license, both you and your intended spouse must visit a county office to apply for the marriage license. In most cases, you must wait five days after you apply before you can come back to pick up your license, and get married.
Bring identification, your social security numbers (if you have one), and proof that you can legally marry if you are divorced or widowed. There is a fee for the marriage license, currently $110.
Minnesota does not require any blood tests or physical examinations to issue a marriage license.
Hennepin County offices are in Minneapolis, Edina, Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, Maple Grove and Brooklyn Center.
Ramsey County offices are both in St. Paul.
