Internet in Minneapolis - Minneapolis Internet Service Providers

By , About.com Guide

There are three ways to get home internet service in Minneapolis.

Comcast is the local cable company and offer cable internet, as well as phone and television services.

Qwest provide DSL internet via home telephone lines. They also offer telephone services.

USI Wireless is the City of Minneapolis' municipal wi-fi service. A large majority of homes in Minneapolis can use USI Wireless, depending on if there is a strong enough signal at the home - trees, other structures, and proximity to the nearest wireless node affect the wi-fi signal strength. Good news if you do get a usable signal at your house - looking solely at the cost of internet, USI Wireless is much cheaper than either Qwest or Comcast. Here's more about how USI Wireless works, and the pros and cons of signing up.
