The Twin Cities metro area is Minnesota's largest urban area. It's called the "Twin Cities" after the two largest cities, Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Minneapolis is the largest city in Minnesota, and St. Paul is the state capital.

The Twin Cities metro area covers Minneapolis and St. Paul and their suburbs. There are 182 cities and townships in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area, and seven counties.

The seven counties in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area are:

  • Hennepin (contains the city of Minneapolis)
  • Ramsey (contains the city of St. Paul)
  • Anoka
  • Washington
  • Carver
  • Scott
  • Dakota
