Holiday Shows, Plays, Musicals, Ballet and Concerts in Minneapolis and St. Paul

Create fonder memories than a pair of socks or an electric drill with tickets to a holiday concert, play, ballet, musical, or performance. Choose from classics like the Nutcracker, the Messiah, or A Christmas Carol, or something more unusual like In the Heart of the Beast's puppet street theater or a production from the Hennepin Theater District.

In the Heart of the Beast: La Natividad

In The Heart of the Beast presents La Natividad, is performed in English and Spanish, and incorporates Christmas and Las Posadas. The show starts at In The Heart of the Beast's theater, but then the audience will follow the puppets through the streets and ends with a procession and fiesta. December 13-16, and December 20-22.

Metropolitan Ballet: The Nutcracker

One of the absolute Christmas classics, the Metropolitan Ballet perform The Nutcracker with a live orchestra at the Hopkins Event Center. Two shows on December 22.

Guthrie Theater: A Christmas Carol

The Christmas tradition, A Christmas Carol, is playing at the Guthrie from November 13-December 29. It's the 38th anniversary of the holiday show, but the Guthrie makes it fresh and full of wonder every year.

The second of two holiday shows at the Guthrie, this one is on one night only: Kevin Kling's Tales from the Charred Underbelly of the Yule Log, on December 10.

Minnesota Orchestra

The Minnesota Orchestra usually celebrates Christmas in all kinds of ways this December. This holiday season the Minnesota Orchestra musicians are on strike, and shows have been cancelled though December 23. Refunds and exchanges are available for tickets already purchased.

St. Paul City Ballet: The Enchanted Toy Shop

The St. Paul city Ballet's Holiday show is The Enchanted Toy Shop, performed at Concordia College in St. Paul. December 13 - 16.

SteppingStone Theatre: The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is the SteppingStone Theatre's annual children's holiday show, so beloved that this is the 20th year of the production. November 30 - December 23.

Ordway: Elf The Broadway Musical

The Ordway Center always puts on a magical Holiday production or two. This year, the Ordway Center presents Elf The Broadway Musical, December 5 - December 30.

Minnesota Boychoir: Annual Holiday Concert

The Minnesota Boychoir's annual holiday concert will be at the Ted Mann Concert Hall in Minneapolis on December 22. This year, the annual winter concert is called A World... A Way.

The Minnesota Boychoir will also perform at the Landmark Center in downtown St. Paul, with two shows on January 6.

All shows are free, and a freewill donation is requested.

Hennepin Theater District

The Hennepin Theatre District has all kinds of holiday entertainment in three theaters.

Minnesota Public Radio's Holiday Concerts at the Fitzgerald Theater

MPR presents the minimalist jazz trio, The New Standards Holiday Concert on December 7, 8 and 9.

The Home Free Vocal Band brings their Home Free Christmas Tour concert to the Fitzgerald Theater on December 15.
