Create fonder memories than a pair of socks or an electric drill with tickets to a holiday concert, play, ballet, musical, or performance. Choose from classics like the Nutcracker or White Christmas, or something more unusual like In the Heart of the Beast's puppet street theater or a production from the Hennepin Theater District.

SteppingStone Theatre: The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is the SteppingStone Theatre's annual children's holiday show. December 5-23.

In the Heart of the Beast: La Natividad

A unique holiday performance from In the Heart of the Beast re-tells the Nativity story on Lake Street, incorporating the Mexican tradition of Las Posadas. Each performance of La Natividad visits three locations and has street theater, a torchlit procession, puppets, and live music. Performances on selected dates December 13-21.

Minnesota Orchestra

The Minnesota Orchestra celebrates Christmas in all kinds of ways this December. This holiday season the Minnesota Orchestra performs in several different holiday shows, including children's concerts, ballet and opera.

Ordway Center: White Christmas and A Christmas Carole Petersen

Christmas isn't Christmas without Irving Berlin's White Christmas and it's back at the Ordway Center, December 2-January 3.

A Christmas Carole Petersen is a musical comedy tribute to the composer, Tod Petersen's, mom and his Mankato, Minnesota childhood Christmases. November 28-December 21.

Landmark Center: The Warmest Christmas and the Minnesota Boychoir

The Warmest Christmas is a piano concert featuring the music of Minnesotan composer Kurt Metzger. December 16.

The Minnesota Boychoir's annual winter concert is January 4 2009, with two performances on that date. The free concerts benefit local food shelves, concert-goers are invited to bring non-perishable food items to donate.

Guthrie Theater: A Christmas Carol

The Christmas tradition, A Christmas Carol, is playing at the Guthrie from December 2-31. There's also one performance of the family-friendly A Trashy Little Xmas on December 14.

Hennepin Theater District

The Hennepin Theatre District has holiday entertainment for every taste with ballet, musicals, musical comedys, and concerts all December. Productions include The Holiday Pageant with Kevin Kling, Sarah Agnew, Luverne Seifert, and Amy Matthews, Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker, Linda Eder - Home For Christmas and A Don't Hug Me Christmas Carol.

Holiday Concerts at Colleges

Colleges in the Twin Cities' holiday concerts are produced and performed by students, faculty and staff. Most are in the first week of December, and purchasing tickets in advance is recommended. Several performances are free.

The University of St. Thomas' concert, Hodie Christus Natus Est is on December 7 at Orchestra Hall. The performances will be recorded by Twin Cities Public Television for local and national broadcast during Christmas week.

Twin Cities Gay Men's Chorus: Peace

The Twin Cities Gay Men's Chorus opens the season with Peace, traditional, classic and contemporary songs of peace, echoing our dearest wish for the holidays. December 12-14.

Handel's Messiah

A beloved holiday classic, performed by the Minnesota Orchestra on three dates in three locations, the Basilica of St. Mary, St. Paul's Cathedral, and at Orchestra Hall, December 10, 11 and 14.

VocalEssence: Welcome Christmas

Choral group VocalEssence's Welcome Christmas is in it's 34th year, this Christmas with several new carols. Performances at three churches in the Twin Cities, December 7, 12, 13, 14.
