Cheap Movies at the Riverview Theater and other Cinemas
The Riverview Theater, a retro movie house in Minneapolis' Longfellow neighborhood shows the latest Hollywood movies, independent films and locally made movies. Second-run Hollywood blockbusters arrive at the Riverview a few weeks after they debut at major theaters. The most expensive tickets are just $3, and matinees, children, student and senior tickets cost $2.Elsewhere in the Twin Cities, The Mann Hopkins 6 theater tickets are always $2.50, and the Maple Grove Cinema 10 ticket prices range from $2.50 - $3.00.
Happy Hours
Twin Cities bars want you out and they want you drinking. Happy hours have never been better value, with all-you-can-drink specials, and super cheap you-call-it deals.
Vita.mn has a list of happy hour deals, sorted by city and neighborhood.
The Thrifty Hipster is a favorite resource for finding bars and finding great deals at those bars. A neat feature is the drink special finder to find a happy hour at any time you ask for.
Live Music, Low Cover Charge
Forget about paying $60 to see some arena-packing star at the Target Center or the Xcel Center. Some of the best concerts I've seen in Minneapolis are of local acts in bars and smaller venues. The Seventh Street Entry, part of the legendary First Avenue, is a intimate venue with cheap ticket prices who put on the hottest local and national indie bands. Other locations to see cool live music with low cover charges are the Uptown Bar and Cafe, whose cover rarely exceeds $5, as does the Kitty Cat Klub, the Nomad World Pub, and St. Paul's Turf Club.
The 331 Club and 501 Club, and the Hexagon Bar, have cool bands and never have a cover charge.
