The 331 is in Northeast Minneapolis, and dive bar or not, the reason for it's popularity is free live music or entertainment just about every night, and never a cover charge. Ever. Just about every band that plays here is local, or has some connection to the Twin Cities. Some are obscure as can be, but whoever is hot in the local scene tends to play a gig or two at the 331. If the most-wanted local act is playing tonight, you'll want to get there early. The stage is low, the club is small and narrow, and being right at the back isn't much fun.
Female patrons of the 331 Club get to enjoy one of the Twin Cities' most unique restrooms. The ladies' bathroom has a jukebox which plays only in the ladies bathroom. It's got a great selection of music, which might explain why there is often a long queue for the girls. There's only one ladies bathroom.
In 2009, the owners of the 331 Club opened another venue, the 501, in downtown Minneapolis. The 501 is larger but does basically the same as it's sister venue - free live music, free entertainment, and cheap beers for the hipster crowd.
