Some more snow flurries falling today in Minneapolis, and with cold weather and below-freezing temperatures forecast, winter is surely on the way. And what kind of winter can we expect? After the near-record snowfalls and cold temperatures of two years ago, and then the warm, dreary winter of last year, who knows?
The climate experts at NOAA are predicting that this winter will be warmer and drier than usual. Great news if you hate the cold and snow, but awful for local ski hills, and winter gear retailers, who suffered through a warm winter and early spring last season. But, NOAA cautions that the effects of El Niņo make predicting the winter particularly difficult this year, and don't express as much confidence in their predictions as usual.
What do you think this winter will hold? Ski and snowboard hills are open (Buck Hill, Trollhaugen, Afton Alps Wild Mountain) and the other local ski hills hope to be open by Thanksgiving. Our local ski and outdoor activity stores are also hopeful that this winter will be a good one for them. Are you planning to invest in new ski or snowboard gear? Or biding your time to see what this winter brings?
