What does Google recommend when you start to type "Why is North Dakota So..." or "Why is California So..." ? Google's auto-complete suggestions are drawn from popular searches, so reflect what Internet users are searching for about different states.
Blogger Renee DiResta just put together a map of the most common Google auto-complete search terms for each state. Some of the queries are practical, many are weather-related, some are querying stereotypes about obesity, racism, and weirdness.
You can see the full map with all the queries for all the state at the No Upside blog. And what are people searching for about Minnesota? Here's the top search queries which begin "Why is Minnesota so..."
- Why is Minnesota so liberal
- Why is Minnesota so windy
- Why is Minnesota so humid
- Why is Minnesota so awesome
I didn't realize that Minnesota was perceived as being windy? But I do like the last one!
After the top 4, Google will also suggest "Hot", "Cold", "Great", Healthy", "Warm", and "Scandinavian" for queries starting "Why is Minnesota So..".
