A new billboard erected on the way to Lambeau Feild, Green Bay, shows a picture of the Grim Reaper wearing a Cheesehead hat, and the message that the fat, cholesterol and sodium in cheese is damaging to your health.
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a pro-vegetarian group, are responsible for the billboard. See the anti-cheese billboard here.
Foamation, the manufacturers of the Cheesehead hat worn by the Grim Reaper, are requesting the billboard be taken down, or a lawsuit will ensue. The makers of Cheesehead hats don't want to be associated with anything that disparages cheese.
My guess is that the billboard is more likely to encourage Wisconsinites to unite behind their favorite dairy product and buy more cheese curds at Lambeau Field. Encouraging healthy eating is a good thing - but a direct attack on an icon of Wisconsin probably won't be too well received.
So is cheese bad for you? It's got plenty of sodium, cholesterol and saturated fat - but on the plus side, it's a good source of protein, calcium, vitamin A, and is widely available in low-fat and low sodium varieties.
