The St. Paul School Board is making big changes to school buses for the fall. The existing bus schedules will be changed to a new tiered system with only three times. The aim is to reduce the number of bus journeys made, and to save the school district almost $2 million.
The trouble with the plan is, 50 St. Paul schools will have their start times moved significantly earlier or later to accommodate the new bus schedules - in some cases, by almost 2 hours. Parents are angry because the changes were announced after the deadline for school applications. Many families have to figure out transporting children to school, arranging before-school care, and parents making it to work on time before the new school year starts in the fall.
The list of new start times is published on the St. Paul Public Schools website. And parents who are unable to accommodate the new start time at their child's school, need to contact the Student Placement Center at 651 632-3700 to discuss moving their child to a different school
