Stone Brewing beer is freaking awesome. That was my eloquent review of the first bottle of Arrogant Bastard Ale I tried, in Stone Brewing's home state of California. Admittedly, I'd just dragged my windblown dehydrated self out of Joshua Tree National Park where we had run out of beer while still a day from civilization, and beer - any beer - please, please, get me a beer - was a magnificent and glorious thing.
A more considered review, conducted in a bar, revealed that the stuff is actually very good. Stone Brewing makes a wide variety of beer, nine year-round brews including the notorious Arrogant Bastard Ale, and a generous selection of seasonal and special releases. It has made its way across 30 other states and is coming to Minnesota at the end of the month.
Is there room for another craft beer in the Twin Cities, where we have more microbrewers than Metrodome roof failures? How will it fare against beloved local brews like Surly, Summit, Fulton and Flat Earth? Or, will it be another rival to all the other out-of-state beers that are popular in Minnesota?
Stone Brewing launches in Minnesota with a week of events at pubs and bars in Minneapolis and St. Paul, March 29 through April 2. Stone Brewing beer will be available at liquor stores and on tap at various locations after that.
