True Grit - Minnesota Directors and Minnesota-Made Socks

By , About.com GuideJanuary 29, 2011

Follow me on:

Local boys Joel and Ethan Coen are the best known Minnesota connection to the Oscar nominated movie True Grit. As well as Minnesotan directors, the Star Tribune picked up on a story of a more humble Minnesota connection to the movie.

Melissa Seitzer and Jane Leverenz of Mankato were commissioned to make hand knitted socks for Jeff Bridges and Peter Leung to wear in the movie.

Jeff Bridges has size 13 feet. And Jane Leverenz has been to see her socks on screen three times, where they get some considerable screen time.

Melissa and Jane both teach knitting classes at Mary Lue's Yarn and Ewe wool store in Mankato. Sadly there isn't a "How-to-break-into-Hollywood" knitting class on offer - maybe next season, ladies?
