The above-average amount of snow falling on the Twin Cities this winter has many of us wielding snow roof rakes, or out and up on the roof to clear snow from the tops of our houses. Removing snow from the roof helps prevent ice dams, and damage to roofs from water and from the weight of snow and ice.
It can also be very dangerous to clean snow from a roof, especially in cold, icy conditions. In recent days, two falls claimed two lives in the Twin Cities. In separate incidents, two men fell from ladders while clearing snow, both suffering fatal injuries.
So please take care if you are clearing snow from your roof. Doing it from the ground with a snow roof rake is the safest way, or recruiting a professional. Hiring someone to remove snow from a roof costs around $25/hour.
