St. Paul Public Schools operates a planetarium near by Como Park, in Como Elementary School. Able to display and animate thousands of stars, planets and other celestial objects, the planetarium's imersive video system takes veiwers on journeys through the universe.
Much of the time it is used by school groups, but once a month on Thursday evenings the planetarium screens a public show.
The shows are aimed at families, some are more suitable for older children with more astromomy content, some are aimed at younger children with lots of entertaiment and a little less science.
The next show is October 16 and called IBEX: Search for the Edge of the Solar System. It follows the spaceship IBEX on its mission to investigate the outer reaches of the solar system, and is recommended for children 12 and up.
The Como Planetarium seats about 60 and shows are first-come-first-seated. Shows begin at 7 p.m. and last about an hour. Tickets are $5. Here's more information and the public show schedule at the Como Planetarium's website.
And for more places to go stargazing, inside and outside, here's some of the best places to see stars, to share a telescope, and in planetariums around the Twin Cities.
