This is the week that fall color traditionally peaks and looks at its most attractive in the Twin Cities.
Fall color is temperature dependent, so the cooler northern parts of Minnesota peak towards the end of September. Then central parts of the state and the metro area peak in early October, and the warmer souther parts of the state have peak fall color usually until mid October.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources maintains a map tracking fall color across Minnesota. During the fall the map is updated daily. Very handy if you are planning a trip - you can see where the fall color is starting, is at its peak, and where it is past its peak. Here's the MN DNR's map of fall color in Minnesota.
Here's some of the best places to see fall color in and nearby the Twin Cities, by car, on foot, and from a kayak. And if you can't get enough of it once the leaves are falling in the Twin Cities, the color will still be going strong a couple of hours drive south.
