Ronald Regan, under the impression that ice cream was a nutritious and wholesome food, designated July as National Ice Cream Month, and the third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day. That makes July 18 National Ice Cream Day in 2010.
The Twin Cities have a thriving hand made ice cream industry, with Grand Olde Creamery, Sebastian Joe's, Izzys, Crema, and Pumphouse Creamery in Minneapolis and St. Paul, and Ring Mountain Creamery Cafe in Eagan. So even if your nutritionist would be vexed at the thought of ice cream being good for you, who can argue with it as a treat?
If you can't make it to one of the Twin Cities' ice cream parlors on Sunday, try again on Thursday July 29. Izzy's Ice Cream turns 10 and will be celebrating at their St. Paul store with free mini ice creams, $1 mini waffle treats, giveaways and raffles.
