Arbor Day, April 30: Free Trees at McDonalds in Minneapolis/St. Paul

Follow me on:

Minnesota Forest Industries has been giving away tree seedlings for almost a decade now, and this year, on Arbor Day, MacDonald's restaurants across the Twin Cities will be giving away thousands of baby trees from MFI.

There's no purchase necessary, just stop by your local MacDonalds, most of them are participating, and pick up a free red pine seedling while supplies last. Show your Minnesota pride - the red pine is our state tree - and potentially cut your heating and cooling bills in the future.

Planting a tree where it will shade your house reduces cooling bills, or planting a tree to shade your air conditioning unit will help it work more efficiently. Planting a tree to block the prevailing wind in the winter will help reduce heating bills in the winter too.  All in all, it's a great time to plant a tree.
