Soundset Festival, May 30, Canterbury Park in Shakopee

Local record label Rhymesayers have been producing the Soundset Festival , a showcase of their artists, for a few years now, and it keeps getting bigger. Some of the line up for Soundset 2010 was no surprise - many of Rhymesayer's artists Atmosphere, P.O.S, Dessa, and Brother Ali are playing, and then some of their friends are on the lineup too: Method Man & Redman, Murs, Hieroglyphics featuring Del The Funky Homosapien.

Grand Old Day, June 6, Grand Avenue in St. Paul

Grand Old Day, the one-day festival on St. Paul's Grand Avenue, has moved the musical entertainment away from family-friendly artists, and is courting hipsters with over 20 bands playing at the over-21 festival stages. Detroit-based The Von Bondies, and one of The Current's favorite bands, Free Energy, five power pop rockers from Philadelphia, are headlining the festival. There are plenty of notable local bands including hip hop collective Doomtree, indie rock duo Red Pens, and relative veterans rockers The White Iron Band are playing too. A few more acts are still to be confirmed.

Rock the Garden, June 19, Walker Art Center in Minneapolis

The Current and the Walker Art Center's annual sellout show, Rock the Garden, have been advertising their lineup announcement so much, it had better be good. Rumor has it that MGMT will headline, but you can find out for sure on April 13 at 4 p.m. when the bands playing are announced and tickets go on sale.

The Basilica Block Party, July 9 and 10, St Mary's Basilica, Minneapolis

The Basilica Block Party, the event produced with Cities 97, has almost finalized their lineup too. Weezer and Spoon play on Friday, and The Avett Brothers play on Saturday. Based on how quickly these artist have moved tickets for recent shows in town, the Basilica Block Party will sell out. And there are four more artists, including two more headliners, still to be announced.

Minnesota State Fair, August 26-September 6, State Fairgrounds in St. Paul

And the granddaddy of all summer events, the Minnesota State Fair, just announced two headliners. Weird Al Yankovic, and Rush will be playing the Grandstand, and many more artists are still to be announced.
