The Seward neighborhood welcomed a new bakery this week. Cake Eater Bakery, who up until now have been serving their cupcakes at a framing studio and a rock club, have their very own cafe and bakery in Minneapolis in the former Cliquot Club restaurant.
The cafe is full of sunshine, the walls are bright colors, there's fanciful painting of dancing cakes and unicorns in the bathroom, and the garden is being overhauled.
The choice of cupcakes changes weekly so it's unwise to skip a visit. Right now the selections include fragrant lavender-lemon cupcakes, and Mexican hot chocolate cupcakes, which have specks of chili powder in the buttercream. Past flavors - they have well over 100 and counting - have included the Elvis cupcake, which incorporated bananas, peanut butter, marshmallow and bacon. As well as the innovative and eccentric, Cake Eater Bakery makes a mean classic cupcake if chili, beer or bacon in your cake is just too wild.
There's several vegan cupcakes, scones and cookies daily, which are also perfect for those with egg or dairy intolerances.
The Birchwood Cafe and the Seward Co-op have Seward covered for Peace Coffee, so Cake Eater has chosen to serve Intelligentsia Coffee from Chicago instead, equally earth friendly and very smooth in a cappuccino or plain brewed.
They aim to be hip but still family friendly, with a kid's happy hour at 3 pm on weekdays with hot cookies and hot chocolate which I have made a mental note of to take the kids for an after school treat this winter. Actually, never mind. Let's go now.
Cake Eater Bakery is at 2929 E 25th Street in Minneapolis. You can also still find Cake Eater Bakery cupcakes at Mitrebox Framing Studio and the Triple Rock Social Club. Visit http://cakeeaterbakery.com to check on the current cupcakes at the shop, and the times they will be available at Mitrebox and the Triple Rock.

Dying to know if this was penned by Scarlett or Holly. Hmm…And, I don’t think the term cougar is offensive. Wild cats are sexy, right? Grrrrr goes on…
