The Travel Channel is in town this week filming for the upcoming series Food Wars, a program that pits two versions of local delicacies against one another.
Philadelphia has cheesesteak, Chicago has Italian Beef and Buffalo has wings, but in Minneapolis, there's the south Minneapolis rivalry between the Juicy Lucy at the 5-8 Club and the Jucy Lucy at Matt's Bar. Both claim to have invented the cheeseburger with cheese inside the burger sometime in the 1950s. But, the Travel Channel doesn't want to know who did it first, they want to know who does it best and which Lucy has the most rabid fans.
Juicy Lucy fans are invited to cheer on their burger for the camera at the 5-8 Club when the Travel Channel films there on Monday February 8, from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.
And Jucy Lucy fans get their chance to root for their burger at Matt's Bar the next day, Tuesday February 9, again between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. when the Travel Channel films there.
Then there will be a cook-off at the Cardinal Bar in Minneapolis on Wedneday February 10 to determine the best Ju(i)cy Lucy in Minneapolis, to which both burger's fans are invited. Signs, t-shirts and other fan items are encouraged. Super fans can arrive at 3.30 p.m. in anticipation of the live burger battle which begins at 5 p.m. in the bar.
