Minneapolis was just placed third in the list of America's most literate cities. And here's some more lists that Minneapolis/St. Paul is proud, or not so proud, to be in the top ten of.
The best:
Energy Efficient Buildings: Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area is number 8 on the EPA's list of metropolitan areas with the most ENERGY STAR buildings in 2008.
Cats: Minneapolis was graded 10th in a national survey of cat-friendly cities. Purrrrrr.
Accidents: Minneapolis was top of the heap in a Forbes list of America's safest cities, examining crime rates, natural disasters, workplace accidents and car crashes. Minneapolis was also top of a list of pedestrian friendly metro areas for 2009.
The worst:
Sunburn: Four counties in the Twin Cities metro area are amongst the reddest in the US, and their combined lack of sunscreen makes us the most sunburned metro area in the nation.
Commuting: We are the 10th worst metro area for congestion, despite improving slightly over the previous year. Perhaps when the eternal 35W/highway 62 Crosstown Project is finally finished we'll get off that list?
Desirability: Minneapolis is the nation's fourth least desirable metro area for those considering relocating to another part of the county, with 81% of non-Minnesotans saying that they definitely would not want to live here. No? Not with all the cats?
