Next month, the Seward Arts Festival celebrates its tenth anniversary. Galleries in the Seward neighborhood in south Minneapolis, tucked in the corner between the Mississippi River and I-94, are holding special exhibitions, local residents are displaying their art and crafts at their homes, and local business host music, food and art events.

The festival kicks off with a party on Friday evening at Sister's Camelot at 2657 South 32nd Avenue, one of Seward's industrial warehouses belonging to a food share program that donates organic food to impoverished Twin Cities neighborhoods. Saturday has live music, food, arts and crafts, and an Art Car parade through the neighborhood. The Art Car parade begins at 11 a.m. and will be unmissable wherever you are in Seward.

After the main Art Crawl winds up at 5 p.m. on Saturday, the The Eagles Club presents the Seward Arts Festival Variety Show with a variety of performances, and then the entertainment continues into the evening with Middle Eastern DJs and belly dancers at Ethiopian restaurant Blue Nile on Franklin Avenue until late.

Sunday wraps the festival up with a smaller selection of galleries open.

With a pair of sensible shoes, the art crawl part of the festival is all walkable, and there's plenty of opportunities to refuel at beloved neighborhood spots like the Seward Co-op deli, the Seward Cafe, the Birchwood Cafe and Pizza Luce on the way.   Or you can bike, and if you do, you can compete in the Seward Art Festival bike rack scavenger hunt, which has prizes for spotting Seward-designed bike racks. Very Seward indeed.

The Seward Art Festival is October 9, 10 and 11. Find more information, a map and schedule for the festival at the SAF website.
