Thursday June 18, 2009
You'll still have to pay full price for new releases, but all summer long, parks and bars are showing classic movies and recent releases on outdoor screens. Here's where to catch a free movie screening in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Screenings usually begin at dusk.
- Music and Movies in District del Sol. Starting June 18 and running until August 8, see a free movie from Mexico every Thursday night at St. Paul's Castillo Park.
- Minneapolis Parks Movies many family-friendly movies, classics and recent releases at parks across Minneapolis.
- Movies at Loring Park. Arty movies follow a live music performance from local artists. In case of rain, the movies will be shown at the Walker Art Center, on the other side of Hennepin Avenue.
- Brit's Pub Summer Movie Series. Recent British movies shown on Brit's rooftop patio, one of the best in the Twin Cities. Movies are shown every Monday evening in August, and Labor Day.
- Movies at Solera. Also in Downtown Minneapolis, Solera is showing several movies every week on their roof. The choice of movies includes classic favorites and recent releases from the last year or two.
- Kerasotes Kids Movies. The three local Kerasotes Theaters, at Block E, Coon Rapids and Inver Grove Heights, have free children's movies during the summer, first come, first served. Movies are shown at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
