There are several events in the next few weeks for runners and cyclists to benefit local and national charities and non-profit organizations. What better motivation to train than for a race that also supports a great cause?
- Brian Kraft Memorial 5K Run/Walk May 25, Memorial Day. Brian Kraft was a local, talented runner diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at just 19. This race benefits the Arnold S. Leonard Cancer Research Fund at the University of Minnesota.
- Step Forward to Cure TSC 5K Run, May 30. Tuberous Sclerosis Complex, TSC, is an incurable generic disease that causes tumors to grow in the brain, lungs, skin, kidneys and many other systems in the body. This race benefits the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance.
- 2008 Tour de Cure, June 6. This bike ride, organized by the American Diabetes Association, offers a choice of a 6, 25 or 45 mile bicycle ride to raise money for diabetes research. This race has an registration fee and each rider is required to raise a minimum of $150 in sponsorship to ride.
- Run For Pride 5k Run and Walk, June 27. Coinciding with the annual Twin Cities Pride events of late June, this 5K benefits District 202, a Minneapolis-based support organization for LGBT youth.
