Did you know that you can save money on utility bills by planting large shade trees on the west or east side of your home to reduce cooling costs, possibly over $30 every month? It's tree sale season, so right now Twin Cities residents can place an order for a tree or two to plant next month. Plant a tree, beautify your home, and see gradual reductions in your energy bills as it grows.
The city of Minneapolis, working with the Tree Trust, has made 1,000 trees available at a reduced cost for Minneapolis residents only. Trees can be ordered at the Tree Trust website and will be available for collection on May 9, 10 and 11 at the former Franklin Middle School in north Minneapolis.
St. Louis Park residents can also order up to two trees from the Tree Trust for $35 each. Trees can be collected on May 2 from 7305 Oxford Street in St. Louis Park.
Friends of the Parks and Trails are currently taking orders for trees and shrubs. Sugar maples, oak trees, apple trees, rose bushes and magnolias are some of the choices from this year's expanded selection. Orders must be placed by April 17 and trees and shrubs will be available for collection at one of two locations in St. Paul or Maplewood on May 2.
