Coffee Cupping: Coffee Tasting and Desserts at Wilde Roast Cafe

By , About.com GuideMarch 2, 2009

Follow me on:

The Wilde Roast Cafe is holding a coffee cupping event on March 10. Coffee cupping is what those of us outside the trade know as coffee tasting. The Wilde Roast Cafe will share some of their knowledge of beans, fair trade and organic coffees, and three coffees will be sampled paired with three desserts. Wild Roast Cafe desserts are phenomenally good.

The event costs $10 per person, and every attendee will go home with a Wilde Roast Cafe coffee cup. Make reservations by calling the Wild Roast Cafe at 612-331-4544.

Also next week, the Wilde Roast Cafe is celebrating their birthday, and every drink purchase will be upsized for free between March 7 - March 14, plus they will be giving away mugs and shirts.

Actually, it’s not. Unfortunately, some people in the coffee business think the only way to market good coffee to layman customers is to pretend that coffee cupping is the equivalent to wine tasting — when in reality, it’s most often employed to check lots of pre-roasted green coffee beans for defects and for the ultimate roast profile.

Honestly, I cannot wait for the day that coffee people start treating coffee like coffee for its own merits, and not as a second-rate substitute for wine.
