Last Weekend for Oktoberfests: St. Paul's Oktoberfest and More...

Sunday October 5, 2008
Oktoberfest season is traditionally late September and Early October. If you haven't attended one of the many Oktoberfest celebrations in the Twin Cities yet, this weekend is your last chance for polka, daschsund races, beer and fun.

St. Paul's Oktoberfest is this Saturday. The 8th annual Oktoberfest is held in the grounds of Saint Bernard's Parish along Rice Street between Geranium and Rose Avenues, in St. Paul's North End.

The event will be under cover, and feature entertainment like bed races, a dachshund dash, live music, German food, beer and wine. The organizers stress that it's a family friendly event with a children's area and lots of activities for kids.

Northeast German bar and restaurant Gasthof zur Gemutlichkeit's over-21 Oktoberfest has been poring German beers for the last couple of weekends, and the last dates of polka, food, dancing and fun is this weekend, October 11 and 12.

And outside the Twin Cities, but a beautiful place to visit at this time of year, is the New Ulm Oktoberfest, held at the New Ulm Holiday Inn and downtown New Ulm. This family friendly event has horse-drawn trolley rides, polka, live music and tours of the Schell's Brewery and other historic buildings in New Ulm. The last weekend of this festival is also October 11 and 12.

I’ve always wanted to visit Minnesota. It sounds like I just missed one of the best times to go.
