Local Boys Joel and Ethan Coen Shooting New Movie in the Twin Cities
The film is a dark comedy about a Jewish academic family set in St. Louis Park in the sixties. The film is a relatively low-budget affair, and most of the actors lesser-known are Minnesota natives. This week the Coens are shooting in Bloomington, and then will be in locations in Edina, Northfield, St. Paul and Minneapolis through November.
The Coen brothers' latest film, Burn after Reading, another comedy, albeit a star-studded one, opened on Friday to delighted reviews.
Have you spotted the Coen brothers' filming in your neighborhood? Are you excited to see locations in the Twin Cities featured in a Hollywood movie? And have you been to see Burn after Reading? Did you enjoy it as much as the critics? But please don't spoil it for me, I haven't made it to the movie theater to watch it yet!

I hope this “dark” comedy isn’t as dark as “Fargo”. I know a lot of people liked it, but to me it was really a downer. I really did like the brothers’ bluegrass musical “Oh Brother Where Art Thou”. I’m sure that they got the title for that one from Preston Sturges’ film “Sullivan’s Travels”. They couldn’t have come up with that title in a vaccuum.
They are filming at the Aqua City Hotel tonight on Lyndale…
Heard on the set at the Aqua City Motel tonight that they were filming on St. Clair Ave tomorrow, just south of downtown St. Paul.
