Minneapolis' two-day Oktoberfest is this weekend, September 14 and 15, on the Mississippi River near St. Anthony Main. German bratwurst are perfect for those jaded after all those hotdogs on sticks from the State Fair and the Renaissance Festival. German beer, food, live music, polka dancing and traditional games celebrate the German heritage and history of the area. The event is free, and family friendly.
And on the same weekend, September 12-14, the Muddy Pig in St. Paul is putting on a Belgium Beer Festival, with over 80 beers served over the three days. Belgium beers can be incredible. Belgium produces the widest variety of beers in the world, many are brewed with spices or fruit, and most have a high alcohol content. So go easy, savor, instead of trying to drink all 80! There will be ticketed seminars during the festival for beer connoisseurs to learn more about Belgium Beer and the Belgian beer culture.
