Are you Looking Forwards to the Republicans Coming to Town?

By , About.com GuideAugust 12, 2008

Follow me on:

I have heard a lot of grumbling about the Republican National Convention lately. I've also heard a lot of Minnesota-polite resigned, whatever, we'll put up with them comments.

I have yet to meet someone (members of the organizing Republican National Committee, and the Minneapolis/St. Paul official welcoming committee excepted) who is actually excited about the RNC coming to town.

How do you feel about the estimated 45,000 visitors who will descend on the Twin Cities from September 1-4? Vote in the poll, and you can leave your opinion in the comments section below.

I find the Minnesota Renaissance Festival much more interesting.

hi,
I’m one of the dreaded Republicans descending on your city for the Republican Convention. Don’t hate me!!! I’m going w/ my husband who is a delegate, but will be spending my time with my son roaming the twin cities. Any shopping suggestions? Antique stores?

Hi Theresa,

Welcome to the Twin Cities! We have some wonderful independent stores here. Check out the antique stores in Stillwater, about 20 minutes from St. Paul.

Edina, just southwest of Minneapolis, has lots of great shopping at 50th and France, and also at the Galleria mall.

Uptown Minneapolis also has great shopping, people watching, and is very close to Lake Calhoun and Lake of the Isles, both very pretty urban lakes.

Artists in Northeast Minneapolis open their studios, and hold gallery tours on Thursday 4 September. Visit NEMAA for more information.

Here’s a list of shopping districts and malls in the Twin Cities.
