Fast Food in the Twin Cities

Thursday August 7, 2008
Burger drive-through Sonic just opened up in on Suburban Avenue in St. Paul, and now Dunkin' Donuts is looking to open franchises across the Twin Cities. Unfased by the demise of rival Krispy Kreme donuts last year, Dunkin' Donuts hopes to open 100 new stores in Minnesota over the next few years.

I remember Dunkin' Donuts fondly and with a slight sugar-induced headache from my time living and traveling in other parts of the US. I love my local bakeries (Isles Bun & Coffee, and A Piece of Cake are my favorites) but there's occasionally days when nothing but a Dunkin' Donuts chocolate frosted cake donut can satisfy my urge to consume a half-marathon's worth of calories and half-a-day's ration of saturated fat in a few gooey mouthfuls. Yum. So welcome, Dunkin' Donuts.

What other out-of-state franchises would you like to see here? Or are new chain restaurants and shops not welcome in the Twin Cities?
