Almost one year ago, on August 1 2007, at 6:05 p.m., the Interstate 35W bridge across the Mississippi River in Minneapolis collapsed into the water, killing 13 and injuring hundreds.
The city of Minneapolis is holding two public events to remember those killed, and to honor the rescue workers, and others who responded to the disaster.
An interfaith prayer and memorial service will be held at the Basilica of St. Mary in the morning of August 1.
An outdoor memorial ceremony will be held in the afternoon at Gold Medal Park on the bank of the Mississippi river from 4:30 p.m. - 6:15 p.m., concluding with a minute of silence at the time of the collapse, and then ringing of bells across Minneapolis and across the state.

That was such a terrible event. If there is a positive aspect to it, however, it is that more attention is being focused on bridge safety, and lives will probably be saved as a result.
