The Great River Energy Bike Festival: Races, Stunts, Art and Music

Sunday June 8, 2008
The Minnesota Bike Festival, aka the Great River Energy Bicycle Festival, begins on Wednesday 11 June, running until June 15, Father's Day.

The centerpiece of the festival is the Nature Valley Grand Prix, several days of races with world and Olympic champions competing for the yellow jersey. Professional riders from all over America will be riding, and you'll be able to cheer on several cyclists who will be competing at the Beijing Olympics later this year.

Along with watching the professionals race, there are amateur and kids races, plus stunt demonstrations, a bike expo, a kid's day, bike related festivities in Minneapolis and St. Paul's parks, music and art too.

Every event is free to watch, so it's a wonderful chance to see some of our Olympic hopefuls compete in a very exciting, high-energy sport.

Another bike-related event this month is at the Altered Esthetics Gallery. Their current exhibition is Bicycle Art III which will be on display at their Northeast Minneapolis gallery until June 28.
